Natural objects that you'll find
Where
Skinny Woods, Hawkhill Wood,
Craigmillar Castle Park and any of the
hedgerows
Why
When we go for walks outdoors, our minds are often on other things and
we overlook the delights of our surroundings. A sensory walk encourages
us to use all of our senses to ensure that nothing goes unnoticed!
How
Encourage children to look at what’s around them. Compare the shapes
of leaves, or the colours of flowers. Be silent for ten steps to find
out what you can hear. Listen to the noises around you. Smell flowers
and leaves. Feel objects along the way. Taste (optional) blackberries
and wood-sorrel. Use the activities on this site along the way, to
encourage children to explore what’s around them. |
